Year 9 English
This term in English we are reading Of Mice and Men. It is a story about two migrant workers during the Great Depression in America.
To understand this book we have to learn about what life was like during the Great Depression and how the author uses symbols and foreshadowing.
The two main characters, Lennie and George, have a dream to own their own farm and ‘live of the fatt’ the land’ and to tend rabbits; but will it come true? We will find out soon.
What are our ‘American’ Dreams?
Miss Sullivan: To own a cottage with a yard full of flowers
Selma C: Own my own island
Selvi: To run my own business
Yamin: To meet SNSD!
Selma S: To own my own farm
Aya: To live in Japan ;)
Sukran: To travel the world with my friends
Izabella: To have my La Ferrari and to see the Northern Lights
Year 10 English
To Kill a Mockingbird is a book about growing up and the impact of racism in the southern states of America. We were shocked when we learned about the injustice of some historical court cases like Emmett Till and George Stinney where African Americans were convicted or lynched because of the colour of their skin. It was hard to believe that there was a time where Jim Crow laws existed and African Americans experienced so much discrimination. In the book a black man is accused of a crime he did not commit yet he will be convicted anyway because of the institutionalised racism that existed at the time.

Maths Department
Dear parents and students,
Welcome back to another exciting academic year. I will be teaching Year 8, 9 and 10 Maths this year. As I mentioned earlier to my students, I hope to see them achieve their best in all subjects, especially Maths.
My hope is that in my classes, students who ‘hate’ Maths will begin to ‘like’ it, and those who ‘like’ Maths will end up ‘loving’ it. I believe aiming for highest results is the key to succeed and I hope to see this happening from all my students. I hope the year goes smoothly for all of us and wish a successful year for all our students.
